The independent Group who publish Dazed and Confused and Another Magazine have begun developing a system that provides tailored content to those using their website. Not only will this factor in their interests but also device usage, location and even the time of day.
With the recent launch of their first long-form video on Dazed TV last month they are forging ahead with plans to integrate more videos, a growing trend for news and magazine sites. The Times has increased its video content since going behind the pay wall offering paying news seekers the opportunity to watch the stories rather than read them. Other news sites such as Sky News have long offered video snippets from their news channel along with the option to stream live video.
Each week a new publication launches its iPad app with many lucrative sponsorship deals to be had it is to be expected that soon all the major players will be available on the extortionately priced tablet. The Dazed Group is looking to a more savvy offering though by not writing a different app for each device as other publications are at present but instead building up user data that will allow for device-tailored content. This sounds like an extraordinary system for Dazed to be building and to anticipate what readers want and when is golden goose to most publishers. It certainly will be interesting to see if they achieve this ambitious agenda.
